MAC 1.0: Bringing services to rural communities

A graduate student clinician is in the back room of the Mobile Autism Clinic sitting on the left side at a table with a 10 year-old male on the right. The black tabletop holds crayons and toys. Trees and a metal fence show outside of the back window. The child's reflections shows in the mirror on the room's cabinet doors.
The text on the top of the original MAC 1.0 RV that reads Mobile Autism Clinic in maroon and orange on a white background.

The Mobile Autism Clinic, better known as the MAC, is our training clinic on wheels, where graduate student clinicians receive in depth supervision on all assessments and interventions conducted.  Services depend upon their research interest and availability. Few, if any, other mobile autism clinics exist in the country.

The MAC 1.0 was housed in a 2004 renovated 29-foot RV and served communities within the Mount Rogers Community Services catchment area, offering assessments and therapy services at various locations.

At our recent VTCAR 2025 Biennial Conference, the announcement was made that Virginia Tech alumnus Jerry Hulick has committed to the purchase of a MAC 2.0!  We are grateful for his generosity and support to continuing our mission of reaching under-served communities with supportive services and research.  MAC 2.0 is on order and should be ready to roll early 2026!

Information about future MAC services will be made available on our Participate in a Study webpage and via social media.
